Madrid/Kontich, 27 February 2024. KG Mobility – formerly known as SsangYong Motor Company – has announced it will reorganise the network in Germany into a direct operation. Astara is fully committed to assisting KG Mobility to prepare for this transition in the best possible way for the future of the KGM (SsangYong) brand in Germany. To this end, a termination notice has been issued with respect to Dealer and After Sales contracts, effective 31st March 2025.
KG Mobility is currently gearing up for a new, electrified future in Europe, aligned with Astara’s sustainable vision of future mobility. Part of that strategy is to acquire more in-house know-how, directly from its key market, as it prepares for the launch of its first KGM branded model in Europe, the full-electric Torres EVX.
For the past 13 years, Astara Western Europe has served as the exclusive distributor of KGM in Germany. This partnership has enabled KGM to significantly expand its market presence in Germany, with Astara Western Europe responsible for the import, warehousing, sales, and after-sales service of KGM’s products.
“We have enjoyed a very good partnership with KGM over the years and helped introduce the brand in the German market,” said Olivier Sermeus, Managing Director of Astara Western Europe.
“While we regret KGM’s decision to end our distribution agreement for the German market, we remain fully committed to ensure our further growth within BeNeLux, Switzerland and Spain.” adds Rafael Sainz, Chief Astara Distribution.

About KG Mobility
KG Group acquired SsangYong Motor Company in September 2022. KG Group comprises 19 subsidiaries in very different fields.
On 22nd March 2023, SsangYong Motor Company became KG Mobility. The business was founded in January 1954 as the automotive manufacturer, Ha Dong-hwan. With a history going back 70 years, it went on to become Korea’s oldest vehicle producer while also becoming the country’s best-know maker of SUVs. The name changed to Dong-A Motors in 1977, SsangYong Motor in 1988, and now KG Mobility in 2023.
KG Mobility recently showcased 3 new electric concepts at the Seoul Motor Show 2023, in addition to the new Torres EVX: the electric pick-up 0100, the compact SUV KR100 and the full-size SUV F100. Torres EVX is set to hit the market as we write.
Together with the change of company name, KG Mobility is also phasing out the SsangYong brand name for its SUV’s, in favour of its new car brand KGM. Belgium and Switzerland recently announced the rebranding of their SsangYong activities into KGM, to be followed by the launch of KGM in The Netherlands very soon. The transition from SsangYong to KGM in Germany will be part of the reorganization of KG Mobility’s distribution activities for that market.
